Allie Campbell
My niece and I.
Hey there! I'm Allie and I am spending my Gap Year (The year after high school and before college) abroad in Ghana as a Youth Ambassador through the Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad program! I will be in Ghana from September 6, 2013 - Late June 2014.
I look forward to being able to share my experiences with everyone!
Why Ghana?
I get this question quite a bit and I'm sure I will continue to get asked this while I am in Ghana. Although the scholarship I am going on ultimately decides where students are placed I was able to decide whether or not I still wanted to participate.
I don't think I could ever fully articulate why I chose Ghana. When I was given the opportunity to study abroad I wanted to take full advantage and go completely out of my comfort zone. It's an incredible and unique experience; one that I wouldn't get if I studied abroad in Europe or Australia. There's nothing wrong with studying abroad in Europe or Australia however, I feel like I would enjoy both more when I am older. Ghana is extreme and fascinating. The West African dances, the people and the rich culture all were deciding factors.
